Hostel Review: Chillax Hostel, Moscow, Russia

During the first week of our trip we spent three days in Moscow.  While in the city, we stayed in the Chillax Hostel which is located near central Moscow.

We arrived in the city by train and were able to take the city’s metro and easily locate the hostel. As we walked from the metro station we ran into the owner who offered us a lift to the building.  Even though we arrived (much) earlier than check in time, the staff welcomed us and we were free to hang out, us the kitchen, check our email and relax. They even got our beds ready two hours early.

The Chillax Hostel is very clean with lots of amenities that travelers will enjoy – free wifi, free computers use, hair dryers, free towels, etc.  They have a common room with a very large and comfortable couch as well as a bunch of bean bags and three computers. They also have a selection of books and movies that you can enjoy.

There is a small kitchen with room for food storage and facilities to cook your own food. During our time there we were easily able to make and eat a few meals in the hostel. The kitchen also offers filtered drinking water so you can refill your bottle.

Overall, the hostel was very welcoming and convenient to many of the Moscow sites. They were very helpful with helping us plan or time in Moscow as well as our onward travel.

The only issue I had with my stay was that at times it felt a little crowded. There were around thirty people staying in the hostel and during the evening the common room and kitchen would be packed to the brims. It was often difficult to find a place to sit and it was next to impossible to find any quiet time. The other issue is that there is only one toilet in the girl’s restroom. While not a huge deal, It meant a few waits for the restroom during busy times.

For the most part I would recommend the Chillax Hostel. I had other friends in Moscow who had horrible experiences with their Hostels and I found our stay to be very pleasant. As with most hostels, the most important thing is the friendliness and service of the owners and staff and I found the Chillax to be top notch in that department.
