Packing For Iceland using Packing Cubes

As you read this I am on my way to Iceland. I won’t be able to update you about my trip until I get back, but in the meantime here is some info about my adventures in packing…..

No doubt this was a difficult trip for which to pack. Even though it was only 5 days, the wide range of acitivites planned made it a true challenge.

First off I knew I would need cold weather clothes for glacier hiking and the like:

  • Ski Pants
  • Warm Socks
  • My new Hiking Boots
  • Coat
  • Hat, Gloves, Scarf

Next up I needed things for the blue lagoon:

  • Swimsuit
  • Towel
  • Water Shoes (probably unnecessary)

Then of course I’ll need the normal walking around clothes, toiletries, pjs, etc. I also want to bring something to go out in on Friday night that isn’t just thick warm layering clothes. So I assembled all of this on the floor in my room and it was basically a hot mess.

Terrifying, huh? Thankfully, was nice enough to hook me up with their packing cubes which helped me organize this disgrace into something more manageable.

Packing cubes are lite weight nylon cubes that help you organize your things for ease of packing. Simply sort like items together, load them into a cube and zip up. Now it’s ready to be easily placed in your suitcase or backpack. The packing cubes come in tons of colors and sizes so that they can used for packing pretty much anything.

In my case I used one large one for my pants and shirts, and then a few smaller ones to sort out my underwear, toiletries and miscellaneous items. I also plan to bring an empty one for my dirty clothes so they stay together and isolated from the rest of my luggage.

The best part of the packing cubes is that when you need to get something out of your luggage, its easy to move them around, find the cube you need and remove the item without having to disturb your entire packing job. Things stay in place and your not a huge disorganize mess.

I was really glad I got to give them a test run for my Iceland trip. Check out how organized my huge pile became with a little help from the packing cubes:

Disclaimer: Ebags provided me with a complimentary set of packing cubes. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

  1. Since we’re planning to travel for 12+ months with just 40L bags apiece, packing cubes have been vital for us! Not only do they help keep everything organized, but they help things pack down smaller too. A guy at REI tried to convince us to get stuff sacks, but we figured all our stuff would get way too wrinkled. The less hobo-ish we look, the better!

I agree – its impossible to keep things not wrinkly when traveling – anything I can try to prevent that is worth a shot!

  2. Iceland is just amazing, I used to live there and am still absolutely in love with the country! Hope you have/had a lovely time!
