I hope you all enjoyed reading about my upcoming Iceland plans! I know I left a little bit of a whole in our itinerary because I didn’t fill you in on any of our “out of town” activities – but that’s because I think they are so exciting that I wanted to save them for their very own post!
Sadly, our little Iceland Adventure is not long enough for us to complete the full ring road which would bring us fully around the island. However, it’s plenty of time for us to get out of Reykjavik and check out some of the cooler (ha pun) attractions along the south coast.
As I mentioned, we will be leaving the city in our Iceland Rental Car from Route 1 Rentals on Day 3 after our whale watching trip. We will then hit the ring road to head south towards the town of Vik. Along the way we will stop at some awesome waterfalls and other natural Icelandic sites. After a visit in Vik, we will head a little further east to check in for a night at a local Icelandic Farm through Iceland Farm Stays.
The next morning we will once again wake up early for the most amazing thing of all, a Glacier Hike with Iceland Mountain Guides across a honest to glob Icelandic Glacier. My expectations for this may be wildly inappropriate but I just can’t get over amazing it must be to strap on some ice pick boots and works your way across a giant expanse of ice.
After our Glacier Adventure, we will head further east still for even more glacier action with a boat ride through the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon. I spent about an hour on this site the other day looking at pictures and sending cute pictures of seals to Holly with messages like AWWWW and ITS SOO CUTE. Who knows if there will be seals, but there will be ice. Lots of Ice. After that we will head back west to Reykjavik for the night.
So there you have it. All the Iceland planning. We are now in the final countdown for departure.
Oh, as if your Iceland trip couldn’t have gotten any cooler! In a way I am glad you didn’t include this in the other post, because I am pretty sure I would not have been able to resist this and our whole RTW itinerary really would have been out the window. I hope you get to see seals!
I actually thought of you while I was posting this! But yes, I know, this trip is going to be amazing!
We are looking forward to meet you on our beautiful island, Elizabeth!
Thanks Jon! I am so excited about my visit!
Sounds like a great trip. Can’t wait to see some awesome glacier photos!
Oh don’t you worry – there will be tons of glacier photos.
You’re gonna have the best time!
Mountain Guides are excellent – it’s a surreal experience putting on your crampons and walking across ice. Have fun!
Thanks! Yeah, I’ve heard good things about Mountain Guides. I can’t wait to go on the glacier walk – totally one of the things I’m most excited about.
